Meal Assistance During Thanksgiving

*We are a cleaning company, we do not offer food. Please scroll down for the list of organizations that can help with food.*

The holidays are right around the corner, and we know what that means! The smell of food, turkey, stuffing, potatoes, and that savory taste of gravy.. Mmmm! But as we say thanks to all that we’re grateful for, we don't forget those in need.

You might think we don’t understand, but we do. Some of our own crew were once in isolated homeless situations long before they found their calling helping others with crime scene, suicide, and trauma cleanup situations. That’s what we do, but our service to the community does not end there. If we can help those in need get hot meals or assistance through the holiday, we’re happy to connect them.

Where Can I Get Free Thanksgiving Baskets?

Thanksgiving baskets and even free turkeys are available to families in all 50 states of the USA. There are several local charities and organizations you can visit or volunteer to help.

Please see below for a complete list by each state. All organizations mentioned here have confirmed participation in giving back programs through the 2022 season.

Assistance varies greatly by town and county, but most Salvation Army and local churches provide assistance to families in need during the holidays. You might try searching for holiday food baskets near you, or within your town.

What's put in the baskets?

The types of baskets vary. Instant meals to uncooked ingredients have been donated. It’s impossible to list them all, but you can be assured that you will receive a bountiful harvest. Some examples of what's been put in Thanksgiving baskets for the needy include:

Free Turkeys

Low income families can get turkeys from Salvation Army, local churches, and other initiatives near them.

  • Free chicken, sausages, and ham
  • Lentil, chicken, and squash soups
  • Sides such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, gravy, cranberry, and other assorted vegetables

How Can I Help?

If you’re in the position to give, you can also donate soups, vegetables, fruit, crackers, gravy, and cranberry sauce to local soup kitchens or restaurants.

You can also volunteer at local soup kitchen or food pantries, participate in food drives with local charities (the nearest to our headquarters is LI Cares). And if you aren’t able to volunteer, you can still donate to Feeding America, your local food bank, or churches near you. Some local restaurants and high schools might also have their own giving back programs, so be sure to check social media for those offerings.

What Can I Give?

Aside from what has been mentioned above, the most desirable items to donate to families in need are:

Common food basket items

Never donate leftovers or freshly cooked meals. Canned, boxed, or instant meals are preferable.

  • Vegetables (preferably canned)
  • Macaroni/pasta
  • Mashed potatoes
  • Canned Pumpkin
  • Stuffing
  • Cranberry sauce
  • Gravy

Giving Back

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of giving back. As crime scene cleaners it defines everything we do. If you’re in the position to volunteer or donate this season, we highly recommend it!

Either way, we hope you consider sharing this article to help others in need!
